2007-2012

1. Turn the ignition to position 1. (close all doors
2. Press the system selection button (3 located on the lower left of the steering wheel) repeatedly until the kilometer or temperature reading is shown in the multi information display.)
3. Press the TRIP reset button (center button on instrument panel) quickly 3 times. An audible beep will be heard followed by the battery voltage displayed.
4. Press the scoll forward/back button (left side of steering wheel) to highlight the “”Service menu””.”
5. Use the +/- buttons to select “”Confirmation”” menu. Press the system select button to confirm. The menu item “”Complete service”” is highlighted.”
6. Press the system selection button to confirm. “”Service confirmed”” appears.”
7. Use the scroll forward/back button to exit the menu.
8. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

Manual Reset

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Press and hold the TRIP ODOMETER button in the instrument cluster and turn the ignition to Accessory 1 – do not start the engine.
3. Keep the button pressed for 5 seconds until OIL SERVICE RESET (RE) or INSPECTION RESET (RE) appears in the display. Then release the button.
4. Press and hold the button again for 5 seconds until RE or RESET flashes in the display. Then release the button.

6. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

2004-2005

1. Turn ignition on but do not start engine.
2. Press the RESET button on the top left side of the instrument cluster for 10 seconds to display a four (4) line menu in the speedometer.
3. Press the RESET button or LOWER AXIAL (FAS) button on the turn signal/high beam switch to scroll through the menu.
4. Select ENGINE OIL and press the RESET button for a few seconds to display a two (2) line menu in the tachometer.
5. Press the RESET (or AXIAL) button to select the SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE.
6. Press the RESET button again for a few seconds.
7. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

2006-2012

BMW recommends the use of a reset tool.

Manual Reset

1. Turn ignition to Terminal 15 which is one turn of the key or one press of the START/STOP button.
2. Press and hold the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button for 10 seconds.
3. The upper display in the Instrument Cluster will be illuminated with a Service Item. The lower display in the Instrument Cluster will indicate the remaining time or mileage left for that Service Item. Pressing the button repeatedly will allow the display to scroll through all of the Condition Based Service Items.
4. Press and hold the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button again and the lower display screen will indicate “”OK”” or “”DUE””.”
5. Pressing the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button again will allow the “”RESET”” to appear in the lower window for that service. Releasing and reapplying the button one more time will reset the service displayed in the upper window only. ”
6. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

Here’s how to do it yourself in no time works on a few different Jags….

Service Light Reset Instructions:

1 . Insert key into ignition.
2 . Press and hold the Reset switch (located on the Trip Computer Switchpack ).
3 . NOTE: The reset switch has to be released immediately after the ignition is switched ‘ON’. This is critical to enable the rest of the procedure.
Turn the key to Ignition position II and at the point of entering Ignition position II (i.e when a click is heard), instantaneously release the Reset switch.
4 . Wait one second.
5 . Press and hold the Trip switch (located on the end of the left-hand side stalk).
6 . Wait one second.
7 . Press and hold the Reset switch (whilst still holding the Trip switch).
8 . The cluster should display (within three seconds) the warning message ‘RESETTING SERVICE MODE’.
9 . Keep both buttons pressed until the warning message changes to ‘SERVICE MODE RESET’ (after ten seconds).
10 . Once the message is displayed the buttons may be released — sequence is now complete.
11 . If a Service Required message was displayed prior to the reset sequence, cycle the ignition to ‘Off’ and then back to Ignition position II and check that the message is no longer displayed.

1999-2003

Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).
Press the RESET button (in fuse panel block inside driver side door)and release. The CHANGE OIL indicator will start flashing.
Press and hold the RESET button until audible chime is heard and then release.
Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

2004-2005

Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).
Immediately after Step 1 press and release the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the CHANGE OIL light goes out.
